About Resource Link Charter School

Mission Statement

Resource Link reaches out to students where they are and provides a network of resources and support to facilitate their success.

Vision

Reaching out and plugging in.

Philosophy

Students achieve success when linked with resource networks that meet them where they are-geographically, academically, personally, and socially-and that move forward in partnership with them. The key elements of the resource network are:

- outreach-based educational and comprehensive services that overcome accessibility issues including time, place, as well as other past and present barriers to educational advancement;

- educational relevance through standards-based curriculum integrated within learners' unique circumstances;

- partnered-education where the school, learner, families, and other members of the resource network partner together to be responsive in meeting students' changing needs and mentoring students along their educational path.

"Hybrid" learning

Students will experience the support of face-to-face contact with a teacher every 5-10 days and will also access resources and support at one or more community-based sites, by phone and by e-mail. This combination of online learning and face-to-face support creates a "hybrid" school model that has the benefits of an anytime, any place cyber school and the benefits of in-person support to enhance success

Access to teaching and learning

Students and teachers will utilize the Internet (or Coos Bay District Intranet) as a primary means for accessing this curriculum. Students will engage in learning primarily through online coursework that involves self-paced, project-based learning.

Technology will be integrated into the curriculum and students' activities to prepare students for the Communications Age.

Who may enroll?

A minimum of twenty-five full-time students, grades 5-12 will be served and up to one hundred fifty enrichment students in grades 5-12 may be receiving services at any given time.

All students will be eligible to apply. Resource Link will not discriminate based on age, disability, national origin, race, marital status, religion, or sex, according to ORS 659.850.Once twenty-five full-time students are enrolled, a waiting list will be established and students will be admitted using an equitable lottery as capacity becomes available.

Part-time students and their families (or other supporters), which will include private school, home school, and district-enrolled students, may request and access enrichment resources to facilitate the "best" education for every learner in an open access setting.

How do new students get started?

When a student is enrolled, the teacher will engage the student in appropriate assessments to determine his or her educational needs. Each student will work with a teacher to develop a personal education plan that will also serve as a contract with the learner.
